Where to Spend New Year’s Eve in North Devon 2018

Whether 2018 has been your best year or your worst, you need to say goodbye to it in style - and North Devon is the place to celebrate.

Over the New Year, there will be events galore across our seaside towns and quaint villages, with celebrations exploding across various pubs, hotels and town centres. But don’t worry about becoming overwhelmed; we’ve compiled this handy guide on where to spend New Year’s Eve in North Devon, detailing exactly where the partying will be this year and what’s taking place.

Bideford Quay

Everyone has heard about Bideford Quay and its legendary New Year festivities; it used to be known as one of the top ten events in the entire country, and it’s still pretty renowned now.

Every year, locals from across North Devon - and tourists from afar - gather on the quay clad in fancy dress. The party starts earlier in the day, allowing for plenty of family fun and activities for the children, before the evening entertainment kicks in at around 9pm. Then there is a flurry of live music and local radio, until the New Year’s countdown and fireworks.

This year, the party theme is the Greatest Showman, and the usual activities are planned throughout the day and night - time to get costume planning!

 Clovelly Village

Clovelly Village is one of North Devon’s most picturesque locations, and is steadily becoming a favourite destination in the county on New Year’s Eve.

This year’s Pirate Party mixes the old with the new, as 2019 will be welcomed in amidst fancy dress paying homage to the village’s rogue history and its most villainous residents.

You can expect an abundance of food, drink and entertainment throughout the evening, with fireworks set to illuminate the harbour, and a pirate themed disco. You can book for further, exclusive activities and dining experiences at the Red Lion hotel, or simply gather in the village and enjoy the merriment.

 The Carlton Hotel, Ilfracombe

The Carlton Hotel is known for hosting Ilfracombe’s biggest and best New Year’s Eve celebrations, and this year will be no different.

Arrive at the venue and be treated with a complimentary drink alongside canapés and get yourself in the mood to celebrate. Booking for a dinner package here promises SIX delicious courses, followed by an evening of dancing. The DJ’s music will be interrupted only to welcome in 2019 at midnight.

Why not make a break of it and book a night or two of accommodation at the hotel?

Saunton Sands Hotel, Saunton

Speaking of hotel breaks, the team at Saunton Sands are offering fantastic packages over the New Year period to accompany what promises to be another great evening of celebrations.

If you fancy feeling like a VIP, this is the event for you with a black tie Gala dinner and champagne reception. There will be plenty of music and dancing later in the Terrace Lounge with a live band followed by a disco.

Lilico’s, Barnstaple

Barnstaple’s best-loved tapas lounge and bar promises yet another brilliant New Year’s party; Disco Delight will be taking guests from the early evening right through to the little hours of 2019. And what’s more - entry to the event is totally free.

With international Soul & Funk DJ Pete ‘Boogaloo’ Robinson providing tune after tune, you’re sure to be kept moving all night long to 60s soul, 70s funk and modern club classics.
These are some of our best suggestions - but what are yours? North Devon is a huge area, bursting with activity and entertainment, and this is one of the biggest nights of the year for us.
