THE A-Z OF NORTH DEVON

12th July 2017

Categories: Visitor News

A is for AWESOME! Well no, actually, in our A-Z of North Devon it’s not – but maybe it should be?! After all, North Devon is the place to be in all seasons.

We’re so lucky in our beautiful area to be blessed with exemplary eateries, views to-die-for and much, much more… that’s why we’ve decided to try and spell it all out in our very own alphabet!

So read on, and learn some more about why the North Devon language is the only one you should be speaking this year…

…IS FOR ARTS

We have a sculpture garden, a gluttony of art galleries, theatres and so much more.

…IS FOR BEACHES

What else could it be?

…IS FOR CLOVELLY

A visit to North Devon wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the unique village.

…IS FOR DAYS OUT

There are attractions for every age around every corner.

…IS FOR EATING OUT

Street food, Michelin-starred restaurants, tea rooms – we have you covered.

…IS FOR FISH AND CHIPS

A North Devon excursion deserves a chip supper by the sea.

…IS FOR GORGEOUS VIEWS

Just like this one, looking down on Watermouth Cove.

…IS FOR HOLIDAYS

Perfect all-year-round, we’re ideal for all ages and creeds.

…IS FOR ICE CREAM

We have the famous Hocking’s of Appledore, Tennacott Farm Dairy of Bideford, Verney’s Molton Ice and so much more! Sample as much as you can – just not all at once!

…IS FOR THE JETTY ON LUNDY ISLAND

The gorgeous island is a must-see for tourists and locals alike.

…IS FOR KIDS ACTIVITIES

Adventure parks, soft play areas, trampoline parks – just not straight after the ice cream!

…IS FOR LYNTON, LYNMOUTH AND THE VALLEY OF ROCKS

Prepare to have your breath taken away at this beauty spot on the north coast.

…IS FOR MARISCO – THE OLDEST NIGHTCLUB IN THE UK

It’s celebrating its 50th birthday this year!

…IS FOR NATURE

Seals, puffins (pictured), dolphins, birds of prey… it’s a nature-lovers dream down here.

…IS FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Even without surfing, there is so much to do. Think paddleboarding, coasteering, kayaking… the list goes on.

…IS FOR PATHS

The South West Coast Path, the Tarka Trail (more on that later), and so many more walkways to stretch your legs.

…IS FOR THE QUEEN’S THEATRE

The Barnstaple theatre and the Plough Arts Theatre in Torrington are two of many fantastic places to see live shows and music.

…IS FOR RAILWAYS

We have a Cliff Railway, a Steam line, AND the Tarka Line, which connects Barnstaple and Exeter.

…IS FOR SURFING

There are so many fantastic spots to catch waves.

…IS FOR THE TARKA TRAIL

Miles upon miles of cycle and walking route – perfect for keen ramblers and toddlers alike.

…IS FOR UNESCO

The North Devon Biosphere Reserve is one of 621 Biosphere Reserves around the world, of which just six are located in the UK.

…IS FOR VERITY

The wonderful statue, created by Damien Hirst who has a house in North Devon, stands proud on Ilfracombe harbour.

…IS FOR WOOLACOMBE

One of the many fantastic beaches in our area, Woolacombe was, until recently, TripAdvisor’s top-rated UK Beach.

…IS FOR EXMOOR

You can’t say we’re cheating with this one. Just take a look at the area, and you’ll forgive us.

…IS FOR YOU HAVE TO VISIT!

Because, well, you just have to – look at that view!

…IS FOR ZOOS

And we’re lucky to have a few, including Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Wildlife Park and Ilfracombe Aquarium.

We hope you enjoyed our A-Z, but if you have any suggestions then please do hit us up on social media; you can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

Keep your eyes peeled for future A-Zs – next up is The A-Z of North Devon Food and Drink in a few weeks’ time!
