Your eye can’t help but be drawn to Squires as you walk down the main road in Braunton. This bustling restaurant can seat 130 guests, but on busy nights it fills up quickly. Venture inside and you’ll find an attractive, modern venue – light, bright colours pleasantly offset by carefully selected artwork. This family business was opened in 1969 by the current owner’s parents. This affords the venue a really welcoming atmosphere, as the owners are passionate about providing great service.
The team’s speciality is naturally the classic fish and chips, cooked in sunflower oil to create a light, crispy batter. The prime fillet of cod comes with large thick-cut fluffy chips, beans, mushy peas or curry sauce. Guests can also enjoy homemade steak and ale pie, a wide range of burgers and tasty vegetarian and vegan options including burgers and a varied grill selection. For a tempting healthy alternative, this eatery offers poached meals like the popular poached fish with a side salad and an excellent selection of gluten-free sauces. To complement your meal, order something from the hand-picked wine list or the extensive gin menu – the well-stocked bar has a tipple for everyone. For a satisfying end to your visit, sample the homemade cheesecake, perhaps accompanied by one of the excellent teas or coffees. You can also order food to takeaway using the restaurant’s own app.
