Rod and Helen Chatfield offer you a warm welcome, old world charm and home comforts on your stay at Varley House.
Varley House was built at the beginning of the 20th century to revitalize and refresh officers returning from the Boer War.
The elegance of its generously proportioned rooms and stylish furnishings is typical of that gracious age.
Delightfully situated overlooking the Hillsborough Nature Reserve and the spectacular North Devon coast, Varley House is perfectly complimented by the quality, courtesy and warmth of the hospitality you will enjoy here.
We have our own car park and sunny garden overlooking the sea and Hillsborough, with the harbour just a short stroll away, which is the home to Damien Hirst’s Verity. We are also just a short drive away from Exmoor, with all its beauty and history and wonderful places to visit.
We make an ideal base for those who want to venture out to Lundy Island, or if you want to spend more days exploring North Devon
Those who have stayed at Varley House, know that you can choose a hearty traditional English breakfast or something a little lighter if you prefer.
After a day out in the pure Devon air, enjoy yourself in our congenial bar. It provides the ideal opportunity to relax and perhaps exchange a few tips on how to get the best out of this lovely corner of Devon. Our bar offers a tipple to suit your tastes from our selection of beers, wines and spirits together with a range of non-alcoholic beverages. Many an entertaining evening and new friendship have resulted from an evening spent here.

Just past that is the swimming pool car park, and our road is right opposite that, signposted to Hotels. We are up on the 2nd bend on the right.
