With an atmosphere and character that is quite unique, parts of The Royal Hotel, which is part of the Brend Hotels’ group, date back to the 17th century. The fantastic Kingsley Room still has its original pine panelling and magnificent ornate ceiling, making it the perfect historical retreat for those looking for luxury. Visit the hotel for a stylish escape by the river in a stylish Regency hotel. The Royal Hotel is one of Bideford’s finest hotels, standing proudly by Bideford Bridge, with glorious views of the River Torridge. The hotel was originally built when Bideford was the busiest port in North Devon, today the area and the hotel oozes charm and character whilst offering you fabulous comfort and exceptional cuisine.
With its pretty riverside setting, the Royal makes a wonderful base from which to explore all the delights of North Devon. We are literally on the Tarka Trail making us the perfect location for walkers and cyclists looking for an adventure around the region. Alternatively, you can take a short walk over the bridge into Bideford to catch the MS Oldenburg to explore the National Trust's unspoilt Lundy Island, also nearby is Clovelly, which is world famous for its cobbled, traffic-free street, donkeys, sledges and historic harbour.
You can choose from 32 luxury bedrooms, which are all beautifully furnished. Many of the rooms are front facing and have views over the River Torridge. All have retained their original charm and character and no two rooms in the Royal Hotel are exactly the same.
The Kingsley Suite is a truly unique room, the stunning Italian-style plasterwork ceiling is one of the finest in the country and was fashioned by English master craftsmen in the 17th century. The two full length windows flood the room with natural light and give spectacular views of the River Torridge. This room has been lovingly restored to retain the charm of its original décor, it like nothing else you will experience.
The other rooms at the hotel are equally as breath taking, guests have the choice between three tiers of luxury with the rooms and we also offer family and ground floor rooms.
The family rooms have a double bed and space for extra beds or cots, whatever home comforts you’re family needs. Just let the reservation team know when making your booking how many beds are required.
All guests will have access to free WiFi, free parking, lifts, telephones, en suite bathrooms, LCD TV with Freeview, 24 hour room service and luxury toiletries.
Whilst staying at the The Royal Hotel you can also use the leisure facilities at our sister hotel, The Barnstaple Hotel for free.
