Quiet and relaxing. Tucked in a wooded valley, we have 6 family run cottages that welcome dogs and children. Take time, enjoy our estate walks or Woolacombe Beach is just a 10 minute drive - your holiday options are your own but what we can tell you is that 50% of our visitors have returned to us a second or third time, or just so many times that we have become friends.
Spreacombe
We are located in the Spreacombe valley, part of the Spreacombe Estate that has been in the Dennis Family for over 60 years. Bought initially for the trees, the Estate has been “farmed” and replanted over the years. We have commercial woodland but that allows us the luxury of our own wooded walks, a couple of ponds and all the wildlife that comes with these amenities. Bring your camera. The fields are also available for you to walk through as long as you respect our lambs and sheep.
Should you wish to leave the Estate, we are under 4 miles to the rugged North Devon Coast ; Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands are our nearest beach destinations. The South West cliff path is stunning and the Tarka (off road) cycleway a pleasant daytime destination.
Our Cottages
Our six cottages are very similar to each other and form a semi circle around a large shared lawn. Each cottage has its own private picnic table and outdoor seat for your own use. If guests are coming in a larger group and taking several cottages we also have The Old Barn available for hire. This is a reasonable size function room with attached kitchen and WC. The Old Barn has seen daytime play, 50th Birthday celebrations and large group meals, but it does have a 10pm curfew. Being all on one floor, the cottages are reasonably accessible, please see our website for more details.
Fuschia Cottage, Number 1 Spreacombe Gardens, can sleep five people and is near to our pedestrian gate that many on walking holidays use to reach the ponds and RSPB wood. Fuschia is ideal for families or larger groups but we also find that couples enjoy renting it for its larger living area and great location. Fuschia has recently fitted wood laminate floors through the lounge area, a new kitchen and 4 bedrooms. There is a large parking area by the door. Fuschia is the most private of our cottages as the main lounge window faces away from the other properties.
Hibiscus, Number 2, is semi detached (to Camellia) but the door is closer to Fuschia. This cottage can sleep four people and as with Fuschia, takes well behaved dogs. Hibiscus has a recently fitted laminate lounge floor, shower over the bath and well equipped galley kitchen.
When we have groups travelling together and taking two cottages, Fuschia and Hibiscus are the ideal two as their doors are close together. We find that groups of two families enjoying being able to eat together in the larger Fuschia lounge/dining room but have their own space for living. Of course on a sunny day there is nothing better than pulling the picnic tables together and relaxing outside with friends.
The small children’s playhouse and sandpit are close to Hibsicus. The lounge windows look towards the play area making it a popular choice for parents during school holidays, but it equally provides a perfectly peaceful retreat in term time, when the only noise will be from our owls and the peacock which likes to visit.
Camellia cottage, Number 3 Spreacombe Gardens, has a lower step to the main door than some of our other bungalows, making it slightly more accessible. As with all of our cottages, Camellia is on one floor and is well equipped for your self-catering holiday. The recently replaced kitchen has a fitted oven and fitted electric hob as well as a microwave, toaster, kettle and ample storage space for your food.
Begonia, Number 4, in the centre of our site, has its main door opposite to Camellia and together they are either side of our small laundry room that hosts 2 washing machines and a tumble drier. Very similar to the other semi-detached cottages, Begonia is single storey with parking directly outside. Both are carpeted throughout.
Your dog is welcome to stay in Begonia and it is located very close to the outside hosepipe should that be needed for muddy boots or paws. You are welcome to walk around our Estate and enjoy it whilst you are here and we have our own entrance to the adjoining RSPB Chapel Wood.
Clematis, Number 5, is kept entirely pet free , appropriate for guests that have dog allergies, but please note there may still be dogs on site. Clematis sleeps 4 guests and is semi detached to Begonia.
Azalea, 6 , Spreacombe Gardens, sleeps 5 and sits at the top of the slope overlooking the site and has the best views of the countryside beyond. This cottage caters for families, children or a group of adults, with or without dogs.
On arrival at any of our cottages you can expect to find the beds made up and a small welcome tray containing tea, milk, coffee, sugar and biscuits for that first drink after your long journey.
Linen and bath towels are provided but we ask you to bring your own beach towels and dog blankets, towels etc. The cottages will include washing up liquid and cleaning supplies. The laundry room has automatic washing machines and a tumble dryer which are free for guests to use. Wifi is also available in all cottages but please be aware that we are on a very slow line.
Please note that we are a working farm and many of the walking routes will take you through fields with stock. If you are walking with dogs please keep them on a lead near the animals and adhere to the countryside code while out and about.
Spreacombe Gardens is the perfect location for anyone looking to take a break away from it all in North Devon, with top tourist attractions and towns close by.
