We are a spacious, friendly, family run site situated in the small rural village of West Down, 3.5 miles south of Ilfracombe. We can provide you with the ideal setting for a very peaceful and enjoyable stay here amongst our beautiful N.Devon countryside with easy access to all local attractions. West Down is 450 feet above sea level and in the heart of the village there are still some cobble stoned pathways and quaint little 17th century cob cottages with slate roofs and a 14th century church of St Calixtus.
Pipcott Fields is easily found close to the centre of the village. We have showers, the use of which are included in the price, and there is a plentiful supply of hot water. The toilets are part of the same area and all are very close to the field entrance.
Our land comprises of 5.5 acres across three fields. The main (lower) field with all the services is 2.5 acres so there is plenty of room. All hook-up points are 16 amp.
We also have two other fields totalling a further 3 acres which are pleasant to walk around with nice views and also good for dog walking (dogs are welcome but must be under control at all times, not allowed to wander or left unattended).
The pitch fee includes use of the site WiFi facility (which covers the whole main field) and use of a wooden picnic table. We do not charge extra for awnings or dogs.
There is also a small garden area available and in the summer months there are outdoor table tennis and boules sets available.
The site has a very gentle slope which is hardly noticeable and will not present any problems.
The Village Community Shop and the Crown Inn (good food, drink and dog friendly) are also very close by.
We also have a nearby 5 acre village community field which includes a children’s play area with swings etc and some goal posts.
There are also some scenic walks from site.
We are within easy reach of some lovely beaches (Woolacombe 5mls, Croyde 6.5mls), stunning North Devon coastline and the beautiful Exmoor National Park. Tarka trail access is at Willingcott (2.5mls) or Braunton (5mls). Ilfracombe, with good facilities and picturesque harbour 3.5mls. Frequent bus service 0.5mls for Barnstaple, Ilfracombe & Woolacombe but limited from village centre.
Arrival can be any time after 9am until 8pm or dusk (whichever is earlier) and pitches are to be vacated by noon on departure day unless extended stay arrangements have been made beforehand.
After several successful years as a certified site of the Camping and Caravanning Club (C & CC) we have now changed our status to become an independent site with our touring site licence issued by the local authority. We are also now an approved listed site of the C & CC.
We currently have a self-imposed limit of no more than 15 pitches occupied at any one time. We have permission to increase this to 25 pitches once the corresponding increase in facilities have been installed over the next few years.
It is our intention to remain as a quiet family site.
You may be interested to find out a little more about our village by visiting www.westdown.org.uk and also if you click on the link to our Community Shop you will see that it is possible to pre-order goods for collection on arrival.
Advance booking is advisable, particularly around main holiday periods.
We can assure you of a friendly welcome and we will do our utmost to help you have a great stay here.

Follow A361 from Barnstaple towards Ilfracombe. 3.5m North of Knowle turn right past Sunnymeade Hotel (Dean Cross) and follow road into West Down village. (Advise not to turn right past the Foxhunters pub as this is a narrow difficult road if you are not used to it and also unsuitable for large vehicles or towing). Turn right at T junction, then 200 yards to village centre. The driveway up to our large private car park and fields is just off the right hand side of the village shop forecourt in the centre of the village. We have a small site office just inside the main entrance gates where we will book you in and provide you with all the other general information about the site that you will need.
If you are coming on the A361 from the M5 and wanted to avoid the Barnstaple & Braunton area then an alternative approach would be to turn off (right) onto the A399 at the South Molton roundabout and follow this road for several miles (scenic route, but fairly bendy) before branching off left onto the A3123 following this until Lynton Cross garage (cross roads - go straight across), then after approx 1 mile take a left turn (signposted to West Down) and then a 1.5 mile road (Ilfracombe Hill) in to the village centre.
Limited bus service from centre of village (once a day to Barnstaple & return, except Tuesdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays). Frequent service to Barnstaple (and beyond), Ilfracombe & Woolacombe 0.5 mile on main A361.
