**No charge for dogs**
At Pillows & Paws Cottages we provide dog friendly self-catering holiday cottages on our small farm set in deepest Devon. We accept two dogs free of charge per accommodation and supply bowls, beds and even towels for drying off after a long walk.
We have two holiday cottages, both 150 year old converted stone barns designed specifically for those travelling with dogs.
Buttermilk cottage
Buttermilk cottage has been recently converted from a stone barn that used to house our goat herd! It’s now a two level luxurious self-catering cottage with all of the luxuries you would expect on holiday like a super king bed. The cottage is fully enclosed garden to keep your dog safe, with lawn, overhanging apple and hazel trees to provide shade on those lazy hazy days. In addition to the garden, the cottage has a terrace with brick built BBQ and picnic bench (all BBQ tools supplied). The terrace is also now fully enclosed so that you and your dog can enjoy time unleashed without a worry.
The French doors of the cottage overlook the stunning wooded valley and lakes below. This cottage is definitely dog friendly and includes lots of doggy elements including a fully enclosed garden as mentioned above, easy wipe floors, low level windows, a dog bed recess and covered porch (with lead hook) for towelling off after a walk. We supply beds, bowls, dog towels, dog hairdryer and there’s even an outside dog bath with hot and cold water on a shower head!
Stables cottage
The Stables cottage is a single level holiday cottage with luxury hotel style bathroom with full size bath and shower & light up vanity mirror. The master bedroom has a king size bed while a children’s room is also available with triple bunk-bed (not suitable for adults). This cottage is definitely dog friendly and includes lots of doggy elements including a fully enclosed garden, easy wipe floors, low level window and even a dog bath right outside with hot and cold water on a shower head to make sure your pooch is mud free! In addition we supply dog beds, dog bowls, dog towels & even a dog hairdryer.
Stables cottage is located on our little farm in deepest Devon. Our land is right next door to over 200 acres of Forestry Commission woodland and National Trust Dunsland parkland perfect for walking with your dog. Explore the woodland, meadows and parkland or try out one of our guided walks – One of the dog walk guides leads you to our local dog friendly pub, the Bickford Arms where you can enjoy a meal and a drink.
Activities on site and nearby
At Pillows and Paws we are blessed to be in one of the best spots in the country for holidaying with your dog. We’re around 25 minutes from the beaches at Bude, 20 minutes from Dartmoor and we have over 200 acres of woodland, meadows and parkland to explore on site and next door. Check out our dog friendly guides on our website for much, much more detail!
Walk the dog in the countryside right straight from your front door.
The best activity with a dog has to be long walks followed with a lazy afternoon tipple at the pub. Our little farm has access to over 200 acres of Forestry Commission woodland and National Trust Dunsland parkland right on our doorstep, with a dog friendly pub (The Bickford Arms) only 1 mile from us. You’ll need your wellies and a map, but it all adds to the fun.
Within half an hour drive we also have Dartmoor, the North Cornwall & Devon cost (South West coast path), lots of woodland and some converted railway lines such as the Ruby Way & The Tarka Trail.
At Pillows & Paws we have lots of Ordnance Survey maps and a compass for you to borrow.
We’re here to provide you with a great holiday. Check out our family holidays at https://www.puddleduckvalley.co.uk too. We work hard to make sure your time away is enjoyable and leave with fabulous memories of Devon. If there’s anything we can possibly do to make your holiday even better please just let us know.
Prices from £69/night - see website for more details.
From Exeter take the A30 towards Bodmin. Turn off the A30 at Sourton Cross and at the end of the slip road take the A386 signposted for Holsworthy & Bude.
After around two miles you’ll reach a mini roundabout. Take a left at the roundabout and stay on the A3079 for 13 miles. You’ll pass through Halwill Junction on the way.
Eventually you’ll reach Dunsland cross where the road is signposted left to Holsworthy and right to Hatherleigh. Turn right and look out for the Bickford Arms pub on the left after ½ mile. Turn left at the pub and follow the signs for Cookbury taking a left and another left.
You’ll drive down a hill, over a weak bridge and then start ascending a steep hill. Our steep driveway is on the left half way up the hill signposted Cookbury Court & Puddleduck Valley. When you arrive give us a call and we’ll pop out and give you a proper welcome.
Unfortunately no public transport is available from our village. The closest is the number 6 bus that passes Dunsland Cross on the road from Okehampton to Holsworthy.
