Nestling in a gloriously green woodland valley, two miles from Barnstaple, Broomhill is a stunning late Victorian hotel with a twist ... there is fantastic art everywhere.
Sitting within 15 acres of magnificent wild woodland valley and beautifully cultivated gardens, Broomhill lies within easy reach of everything North Devon has to offer: over ten different beaches including the golden sands and surf of Woolacombe, the beauty and mystery of Exmoor's rolling hills and valleys, first class golf courses and much more!
The hotel is just two miles from Barnstaple: England’s oldest borough and Gold Award winner for the prettiest floral town in Europe.
Each of the eight light and airy en-suite bedrooms are infused with hand selected art and decor and have a flat-screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. An award-winning restaurant serving mouth-watering slow food, a contemporary art gallery filled with gorgeous affordable art, and a 15 acre sculpture park displaying over 300 fascinating sculptures complete this contemporary bolt hole.
The hotel is owned and managed by Rinus and Aniet van de Sande. They are incredibly hands-on, ensuring that every guest is treated with the kindness and respect they deserve. They have tenaciously developed the hotel and sculpture park over the last 18 years, creating a natural and cultural oasis in the heart of North Devon. Rinus and Aniet’s love of art is evident throughout Broomhill and their artistic flair isn’t confined to the rooms. The brand-new Terre Madre Gallery Restaurant and Bar at Broomhill presents an exciting and unique dining experience for North Devon. Terre Madre serves up a contemporary twist on Mediterranean inspired cuisine with quality, locally sourced produce at the heart of our menu. Their passion for good, clean, fair food is evident throughout the menu, from homemade fresh sourdough bread, cakes and biscuits to home-cured artisan chorizo and salamis. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options always feature on the menu.
Combining food with art, the new restaurant is informal and convivial, an urban style space with an open kitchen – making us stand out as a unique foodie experience for North Devon. Our diners can experience theatre, venue and socialising spot all at once. Not only do we provide guests with great food, service, and a creative wine and drinks list but now, the experience of eating at Broomhill goes above and beyond. The open kitchen allows diners to see behind the scenes and watch the chef hustle and prepare their food.
Hotel guests are invited to explore the sculpture park for free, enjoy the contemporary art collection on sale in the gallery, and admire the Broomhill collection on display throughout the hotel.
In 2018, Broomhill was inducted into the 2018 Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame. This unique accolade is awarded only to those businesses that have achieved a Certificate of Excellence consecutively over the past five years. We are very proud of this achievement as there is no nomination process to these awards - they are based on our guests' views and opinions and reflect how hard we strive to go above and beyond for every one of our visitors.
Broomhill is home to the National Sculpture Prize (NSP) – the only competition of its kind in the UK. The competition, with an annual prize fund of £15,000, offers an exciting challenge for new and emerging UK based sculptors.
Broomhill is an ideal venue for conferences, training groups and meetings. The hotel has a number of versatile rooms, catering for small meetings and large conferences. The newly renovated Stable block has all the facilities to ensure that your meeting runs smoothly, offering a fantastic space for up to 35 people. With this perfect location and tranquil yet inspiring atmosphere you can escape from the busy environment of the office to find relaxation and refreshment.
Every wedding venue claims to be unique – but how many can match an intimate hotel with the beauty of a contemporary art gallery and sculpture park? Broomhill lies in one of the most glorious valleys in North Devon surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland and bound by its own stream, offering the perfect backdrop for those all-important wedding photos. Broomhill is an approved wedding venue and can accommodate civil weddings, commitment ceremonies, renewal of vows and naming ceremonies. The hotel is listed in the Independent’s top 50 best wedding venues.
Non-residents are extremely welcome at Broomhill. Entry to the hotel and gallery is free and there is a small admission fee to visit the sculpture gardens however, this is complimentary with all pre-booked restaurant guests. Why not book a meal with your visit, or sit on the sun terrace looking over the blooming gardens with a delicious Tapas lunch, afternoon cream tea or coffee and homemade cakes.
