A family-friendly walk through History
Cullompton Town Trail
Walk down Station Road, cross with care, and turn onto the public footpath along the Mill Leat. Here, you’ll find remnants of the town’s industrial past:
-
Higher Mill – now a private home, but you can still see the old mill sluice.
-
Middle Mill – mostly demolished, with just a single wall and sluice remains.
-
Lower Mill – offering a scenic view of the church as you approach.
Turn right by the mill and follow the lane to Queen Square, then continue to the top of Cockpit Hill.
Historic Landmarks and Hidden Gems
Descend Cockpit Hill into Pound Square, turn right through Ways Lane, and cross the main road into Crow Green. Here, you’ll find:
-
St Boniface Roman Catholic Church, built in 1929 by the De la Casas family, showcases a striking Spanish architectural style.
-
New Street, where a devastating fire in 1839 nearly destroyed the entire town.
A Grand Finale on Fore Street
Head back to Fore Street, turning right into Church Street, where the towering St Andrew’s Church dominates the skyline. Returning to Fore Street, stroll past The Walrond’s and Manor House before arriving back in the town centre—just in time for a well-earned cup of tea in one of the charming cafés!
