Cadbury Castle Walk: A Short but Challenging Adventure
Getting There
Turn off the A3072 into Cadbury village and follow the green sign for ‘Footpath to Cadbury Castle’. Continue past the parish church on your right.
Parking Options:

Option A: Park outside the church, then walk along the lane to the path on your left.

Option B: Park in the lay-by on Milk Hill, then walk straight up the hill to the path at the corner.
The Walk to Cadbury Castle
The path is steep and can get muddy, so sturdy footwear is essential. Follow the track through the woodland, passing a farm gate on your right—stop and take in the stunning views!

Continue into the open field, following the marked track towards Cadbury Castle.

Dogs must be kept on a lead, as sheep are often grazing along the route.

At the top of the field, an information board welcomes you, revealing the site’s fascinating history. Walk through the outer earthworks and enjoy panoramic views stretching across Dartmoor and Exmoor.
As you explore, historical boards highlight key features of the Iron Age hillfort, offering a glimpse into its ancient past. With its commanding views, it’s easy to see why this site was chosen for settlement—even the legendary Cadbury Dragon would have found his way home with ease!
Returning to the Village
To complete the walk, follow the same track back down the hill.
