Following the cabinet reshuffle and the latest issues surrounding tourism including opening extensions for VE Day and the recent storms, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have released the latest statement.
As you will have seen, there have been some changes in the cabinet and various ministerial positions have changed over the past few days. Oliver Dowden has been announced as our new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Nigel Huddleston has been announced as the new Minister for Sport, Tourism and Heritage.
The contact details and other information regarding these two new appointments will be available on the Department’s webpage shortly.
Following Storms Ciara and Dennis, the DCMS are keen to find out from businesses across the region what impact the storm had. As there was severe flooding, particularly around the South Devon and Exeter areas, it is important to share any thoughts you might have with them so they can work on future preventative methods. Please email xanthe.dennis@culture.gov.uk with any information.
As news of coronavirus continues to spread, the government have updated their information on travelling and tourism, see here for more details. They are working closely with VisitBritain to monitor the impact of the virus on tourism. For more information or to offer feedback, email Alexandra.brown@culture.gov.uk
The Home office has confirmed that pubs across England and Wales will be allowed to open for longer to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, which is taking place on Friday, 8th May. This is also the date of the early May bank holiday. Pubs, clubs and bars that are licensed to trade until 11pm will be allowed to open for an additional two hours on Friday, 8th and Saturday, 9th May.
