#ExtremeCreamTea - get involved and get exposure!

26th March 2018

Categories: Member News

Would you like your business to benefit from our #ExtremeCreamTea competition? There will be lots of opportunities to get involved. Launching in spring 2018, the competition will increase Visit Devon brand awareness and engagement on social media, particularly from Visit Britain's Adventurers & Buzzseekers, as well as British & International ABC1 couples, particulrly those aged 18-34.

To enter, followers will be asked to share a photo of an Extreme Cream Tea taken anywhere in the world [see below for exact detail]. Posts must include the comp hashtag #extremecreamtea and tag @Visit Devon The competition will remind potential travellers of one of the most iconic Devon pleasures: the cream tea, and place Devon and Visit Devon alongside a spirit of fun and adventure.

Get involved: donate a prize

Initially, we're looking to source competition prizes from Visit Devon members. Past competitions have resulted in a great increase in visits to prize giver's profiles and websites, and increased interaction with them on social media.

One winner will win a fantastic break consisting of:

  • Accommodation (1 provider): at least 2 nights, preferably more. Booking dates can be limited as per the provider’s choice
  • Vouchers for at least 2 activities (2 providers), to be valid for any time/day (can be subject to availability) so as to work with the as yet tbc dates of the accommodation. Ideally this needs to be an activity that fits in with Adventurers/Buzzseekers
  • Cream teas: vouchers to enjoy a cream tea at at least 2 venues. To be redeemable on any day (can be subject to availability/opening days) so as to work with the as yet tbc dates of the accommodation

If you would like to supply a competition prize, please contact Stef Fox Adcock on stef.foxadcock@visitdevon.co.uk

What you'll get from it

All businesses that supply a prize will benefit from the following promotional activities:

  • Blog post on Visit Devon introducing the competition and prize. 25-100 words of detail of each prize element. To include links back to each prize giver’s website, and at least one photograph.
  • Social media posts (our current combined reach on social media is 75000+)
    Facebook & Instagram
There will be a minimum of 1, maximum of 5 competition posts per week through May-July, consisting of regular sharing of entries, with reminders of prizes & how to enter.
"Post a photo of an Extreme Cream Tea taken anywhere in the world and you could win an amazing trip to Devon! Eat scone, cream & jam (in that order – the Devon way – of course!) on top of a roller coaster, paddling your board at sea, in the Lotus position on a rock, zip-wiring down the valley … be as crazy as you like, from Torquay to Tyne & Wear, Appledore to Amsterdam.
The person who shares the craziest Extreme Cream Tea pic will win the following fabulous prize: 3 nights at xx[tag]xx, a fabulous 4 star hotel near the Devon coast, and well known for its excellent food and in-house spa; 3 amazing experiences – a session of xxxxxxxxx with xx[tag]xx, where you’ll spend the day xxxxxxx, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the xxxx at xx[tag]xx, and spend a thrilling session xxxxxxing with expert xxxxx of xx[tag]xx; 3 fantastic cream teas –at xx[tag]xx, xx[tag]xx & xx[tag]xx.
Your pic must consist of at least scone, cream and jam (in that order – the Devon way – of course!). Posts must include the comp hashtag #extremecreamtea and tag @Visit Devon to be eligible for entry. We’ll choose a winner at midnight on July 31st, and will be regularly sharing and posting our fave entries. So … get Extreme Cream Tea-ing.

  • In addition
V Dev posts will include hashtags related to thrillseeking, competitions, Devon, Cream Teas, National Cream Tea Day, and hashtags related to specific pics when beneficial
The competition will be running before and after National Cream Tea Day, which will give additional reach and interest
Competition posts will be sponsored on Facebook and Instagram

What else can you do?
All members will be invited to submit an #ExtremeCreamTea photograph to help spread the word, simply by posting it to your social media account and using the #ExtremeCreamTea hashtag and tagging @VisitDevon. As many members' photos as possible will be shared by the Visit Devon accounts. Members’ photos should be particular to their business, and if executed well could help to promote their business. Think along the lines of:

  • Cream tea in the tigers’ enclosure at Paignton Zoo
  • Cream tea at the top of a roller coaster
  • Cream tea eaten balanced on a Tor
  • Cream tea in the cabin of a steam train
  • Cream tea on the roof of your accommodaion
  • Cream tea in the bath
  • Cream tea up a tree ...

The possibilities are crazily endless!
