Welcome to Devon - your official guide

Visit Devon – explore, discover, experience

No two visits to Devon are the same, this diverse county has everything from the bustling cities of Plymouth and Exeter, to the varied coastlines of the Jurassic Coast in the east, the AONB in the North and the English Riviera with its palm trees and abundance of family friendly holiday resorts in the south. If that wasn’t enough, Devon has two National Parks, plenty of waterways and countrysides perfect for a rural or riverside retreat and plenty of things to see and do.

In a post lockdown world, there may be some changes to our favourite attractions and accommodation, but we’re all working together to make sure that every trip to Devon is as special as it was before.

Diverse range of attractions

Devon is probably most well known for its two coastlines. The dramatic cliffs that line the coast in East Devon is a great place for fossil hunting, sailing and fishing, while the waters in North Devon are a haven for surfers and those that love energetic watersports. The county is famed for its award-winning beaches, many of which regularly top the polls for the best beaches in Europe as well as in the British Isles.

The diverse landscapes of Dartmoor, Exmoor and the countryside of Mid-Devon provide the perfect playground for anyone who loves being outdoors, while Exeter, Plymouth and the larger towns have a vibrant nightlife, excellent restaurants and plenty of shopping attractions. Families have long flocked to Devon, not just for the seaside holiday resorts and the adventure activities that can be found in the vast open spaces, but also for the family friendly attractions that can be found all over the county, including historic and heritage attractions like museums, galleries and steam train rides, theme parks, zoos and much, much more. Here in Devon, you’ll never get bored, wherever you look there is always something to do, whatever it is that you enjoy. From regular festivals to seasonal events, to spotting the wild Dartmoor ponies, it is a county full of beautiful and fun distractions.

Incredible sights

Wherever you choose to stay in Devon, you’ll be guaranteed a room with a view. Whether you’re looking for somewhere near the coast, hidden deep in the country, a luxury manor house hotel or even a castle, Devon has everything from quirky guesthouses, luxurious hotel stays, holiday parks and even alternative accommodation like barn conversions, glamping pods and just about everything else you can think of. It doesn’t matter whether you are looking for somewhere for the whole family, a romantic getaway or a solo writer’s retreat, you’ll find the perfect accommodation for your visit to Devon that fits your taste and budget.

Eat local

Because of the diversity of the landscape, Devon’s restaurants, cafès, tearooms and hotels are able to offer you the most incredible, local, fresh, seasonal food you can think of. From fresh fish pulled out of the harbour in Brixham that morning, to lavish cream teas served with homemade jam and local cream, a trip to Devon is the ultimate foodie dream. It isn’t just food on the menu either, Devon is quickly becoming a powerhouse in wine and gin production, with fascinating distilleries and vineyards all over the county offering tours of their grounds and even a sneak peak into how you favourite drinks get made, many of them even give you the chance to create your own tipples and sneak a few tasty samples!

So whatever it is you’re looking for for your staycation or British break, you can be sure that a world of discoveries and experiences await you in Devon.
