Vegan? Gluten free? No carbs? Whatever your special food requirements you'll find great food to enjoy when you visit Devon.
Take a look at the restaurants, cafes, hotels and pubs below, and follow our top tips for making sure your special requirements are met when you're eating out in Devon.
Every chef wants their guests to have a wonderful meal at their restaurant, so give them a bit of warning and most will be happy to make sure they’ve got something you’ll love to eat when you visit. Be sure to phone ahead and discuss your requirements – we’d say at least 48 hours, or just do it when you book your table. Check that there are children’s menus or menus for those following a vegan or vegetarian diet. Done this way, many Devon chefs will be able to cater for your needs and still use delicious local produce – a winner!
If you’re staying in a hotel, make them aware of your requirements when you book your room and they’ll hopefully be able to do two things: reassure you that they’ll be able to cater for your dietary needs; and make sure that’ll you’ll consistently be able to enjoy any or all meals in the hotel for the duration of your stay. Of course, you’ll want to get out and about and eat elsewhere too, but this way you’ll know you’ve always got a failsafe option.
We have every confidence that Devon’s chefs will be able to look after you very well – but if you go self-catering you’ll have the best of all worlds! This way you’ll be able to select the finest fresh Devon produce from our shops, farms, delis and fishmongers, then whip us something in your own kitchen – but also eat out whenever you like too using some of the tips above. Ring the changes and you’ll have a wonderfully foodie tsay, whatever your special requirements.
Going on holiday is a great chance to try something new – and if you try a new cuisine you might find a surprising number of options that cater for your diet. Devon’s restaurants, cafes and takeaways cover a large number of cuisines – so give one a try for the first time.
