Want to dance the night away with your pals and sample some cocktails? How about sitting with your mates watching the latest match over a pint? Or enjoying a quiz with a glass of wine? Look no further than the pubs in Sidmouth.
Sidmouth has an array of pubs and bars all with their own unique charms. All of them have warm, welcoming atmosphere and cater for all manner of visitors. There are pubs that are ideal for the night owls who like to party, there are ones for those that want to enjoy some live, local music, there are those that are suitable for families, those that are themed around certain drinks and those that are everything else in between.
Like many of the pubs and bars that can be found around Devon, the ones in Sidmouth like to promote the quality locally produced drinks. Devon’s warm climate and rich soil make it the ideal place for growing the ingredients for all your favourite beverages and it is becoming a region that is growing in popularity for the production of wine, gin and other spirits. Of course, the West Country has always been known for the quality of its cider and you’ll find a whole host of Devon-made ciders both on tap and by the bottle in Sidmouth’s pubs, but you’ll also find wines, beers, ales and gins too. To really experience the taste of Devon, head to one of Sidmouth’s gastro-pubs where you can compliment your dinner made up from locally sourced food with a locally produced wine.
Sidmouth is east Devon’s Regency town and much of the original Georgian architecture still remains. While many of these buildings are no longer holiday homes, they are still a huge part of the town and now contain pubs, shops and hotels. You’ll find several of the Brend Hotels in Sidmouth, which have their own bars and restaurants onsite. Choose between formal seating areas perfect for business meetings and special occasions and more casual areas, where you can while away the hours with friends and family. Aside from the chain establishments, there are also a number of independent pubs and bars that can be found in and around Sidmouth each offering something different.
For a taste of what life was like back in the Georgian and Regency era, head to one of the more traditional, historical establishments, for music and dancing, look to one of the more modern, newer ones.
Because Sidmouth is a popular destination for families, there are a number of family friendly pubs in the region with children’s play areas and dedicated children’s menus. Many of these pubs also feature big screens so you can keep up to date with the latest sport from Sky and BT.
One of the great things about pubs is how they act as a community base. Whether you are a local or you’re just passing through, there is a certain social element to pubs and bars. During your stay in Sidmouth, why not head to one of the local pubs and take part in one of the community games such as a quiz, bingo or darts? Some of the older pubs have skittle alleys and pool tables that guests are welcome to use, while others regularly hold performances from local musicians and comedians.
Throughout the year, Sidmouth holds a number of exciting events, including the Science Festival, the Regatta and the Folk Week, after spending some time getting involved with everything going on as part of the Festival, head to one of the pubs and bars for the after party!
