Food & Drink at Gara Rock

About

Book your table here.

Anyone who has visited Gara Rock can tell you that our views are magnificent, whether you love watching winter storms or admiring a summer sunset across the bay. At The Restaurant, you can gaze out through floor to ceiling windows while tasting delicious, locally-sourced food prepared by our talented staff. We pride ourselves on friendly, down to earth service in a relaxed atmosphere.

Spending the day at the beach?  Why not pick up a pasty at The Garavan.  If the weather's not great, hunker down in the bar.

Locally sourced and foraged food

The essence of food at Gara is based on locally sourced produce, dictated by the seasons. Though the menu is never going to be huge, what’s on offer will always be local, fresh and the ingredients will stand alone. We cannot do this by ourselves. We believe in true collaboration between our chefs and our suppliers to create a heightened awareness of which ingredients are going to be best at any given moment of the UK calendar year. The focus on seasonality means that we can also reduce food miles and therefore our carbon footprint.

"Expect carefully-crafted and beautifully-executed dishes in a once in a lifetime setting."

Our chef team are avid foragers. This fact will be evident both on our menu and in our homemade cordials at The Bar. We also offer some fantastic local wines and ales. We are sure you will love our simple but beautiful food, delicately prepared and served by our dedicated team in this dining room on a cliff.

A short history of food at Gara

Peer out of the floor to ceiling windows at Gara Rock and your eyes will mostly be drinking in the ocean blue. Train your vision landward for a moment and your gaze falls immediately on the Scheduled Ancient Monument of Deckler’s Cliff (pictured below).

2500 years ago Bronze Age locals were sustaining themselves at Gara and the impact on the local landscape is still visible today. Judging from their field systems it seems that these early residents were taking what they could from the land. We can also safely assume that they were foragers of the local forests and foreshore. They collected crustaceans, seaweed, berries, fungi and anything else the season had to offer.

At Gara Rock we felt we could learn a thing or two from the Bronze Age settlers. We took a leaf or two out of their book and you can experience it at The Restaurant.
