Things to Do in Westward Ho!

Being a hugely popular destination and centrally located, with easy access to all the award winning beaches in the region, Westward Ho! is the perfect destination for those that love a bit of adventure.  There are several, lovely walking routes to explore – ideal for those bringing their dogs with them – various amusements and a host of outdoor activities.

Adventure activities

The North Devon coast is famous for watersports, particularly surfing and this is true of Westward Ho! too. If you want to give surfing or other watersports a go, Westward Ho! is the place to be, the beach is one of the safest in the North Devon region and so is ideal for beginners, younger surfers or anyone who is feeling a little rusty on a board. The water is relatively shallow and there are few riptides and no hidden rocks, providing a great environment for learning a new skill. You’ll find several surf schools around the village, where you can find tuition and sessions. If you don’t have your own equipment or just don’t want to try and fit it in your suitcase, then you can hire equipment from several companies located right on the front.

Spend the day at the beach

Though Westward Ho! is a small town, you can easily spend a whole day at the beach. As well as the watersports, there is also the seawater pool and the rockpooling opportunities – ideal for keeping the kids entertained! The Westward Ho! Rock Seawater Pool is worth a visit just to look at, let alone enjoy! Having been created in the Victorian era, the pool remains to this day and offers a great spot for swimming. The beach itself has good rockpools, which give you and the kids the chance to get up close and personal with the marine life – just remember to put them back where you find them!

Stay out of the sun

If you want to stay out of the sun or avoid the rain, there’s plenty for you to do too. The town has its own cinema, amusement arcade and ten pin bowling lanes to enjoy during your visit.

For those of you who like a round or two of golf, the Royal North Devon Golf Course is located just on the outskirts of Westward Ho! and is one of the oldest courses in the UK.
