Places to stay in Torquay

After being named as the UK’s top seaside resort by TripAdvisor, it’s really no wonder that Torquay is one of the most popular areas of Devon for visitors. Set in the very heart of the English Riviera, Torquay is the quintessential traditional British seaside destination, as well as its miles of sandy beaches, plethora of attractions and famous exports, Torquay is also known for having a fine selection of accommodation options. With everything from luxury service, budget breaks and family friendly stays, the accommodation options in this part of Devon are endless.

Family first

While there are a number of adult only establishments in and around Torquay and there are plenty of things to do that don’t require a family for entry, the English Riviera is best known for being a family favourite and Torquay is no exception. The majority of hotels and other accommodation options in the town are family friendly with many of them being situated either in the heart of the town close to the action or along the water front where you can begin every morning with stunning sea views. Torquay’s selection of family friendly hotels covers everything from luxurious family suites to rooms with adjoining doors, so whether you want additional space or the chance to spend time together, you can have your pick. Several of the town’s family-centric hotels have additional facilities including creches, pools and other leisure activities right on site as well as qualified staff on hand to offer the best advice for where to visit. So, if the weather isn’t on your side, you can still have plenty of fun and choose to go to the beach another day!
These establishments are typically also dog friendly. I’m sure you’ll agree that the dog is just as much part of the family as everyone else. Some hotels in this region are so dog friendly, even your pooch gets a choice of meals at dinner time and the chance to be pampered in their own doggy spa.

There really is no shortage of things to do when in Torquay, the beach is an obvious draw, but there are also shopping opportunities and several top attractions including Living Coasts where you can meet several adorable penguins! There are even hotels that overlook the penguin feeding area, so you can watch them enjoy breakfast with you!

Be in the heart of it all

If you want to be within easy walking distance of everything, you’re in luck. There are plenty of places to stay in the town centre with level walks along to the beach and the marina, as well as the town’s theatre. Torquay’s bars and restaurants are hugely popular and couples, solo travellers and even families will love being so close to where the action is. Whether you want to be on the waterfront or you want to be slightly back within easy distance but not too close, there are plenty of hotels in the town that would suit you.

Something for every taste and budget

With its grand looking Victorian façade, you might be fooled into thinking that many of Torquay’s hotels are out of your price range, but you’d be wrong. Being such a popular, family destination, there are a wide range of hotels offering different prices and room styles. If you’re not one for ornate decoration, why not choose one of the more modern establishments otherwise take a look at the number of hotels that are refurbished Victorian villas. Treat yourself to a real five star experience by booking a stay at one of the hotels overlooking the sea and enjoy watching the sunset on your very own private balcony or go for somewhere more secluded with incredible views in the neighbouring areas of Babbacombe or Teignmouth. Perhaps you’re a fan of history and want to get as close as you can to Agatha Christie, a number of her favourite hotels and regular haunts are still in operation and pride themselves on the connection.
