Things to Do in Crediton
One of the first things you’ll notice about Crediton is its rich history. The town is believed to be the birthplace of St Boniface, who is one of the founders of European Christianity and Patron Saint of Devon. Our friends over the border in Cornwall have several ways to celebrate him and you can do the same here in Crediton. The town is home to a National Shrine of Boniface, which is located within the Catholic Church. In the Parish Church there is a statue and stained glass window dedicated to him. Colourful decorative panels around the town tell his story and he appears again in the open green recreation space of Newcombes Meadow.

Crediton’s residents are proud of their roots and there are lots of ways that Crediton’s history is celebrated throughout the town, including at Crediton Museum where themed exhibitions share the town’s history. Other historic sites include an ancient holy well and historic railway station.
Art and culture are a big part of town life too. You can enjoy performances and workshops at the local arts centre or catch a show at the town’s jazz bar. The Market Square is a popular open air venue for music, theatre or just relaxing with a coffee. For the more active of you, you can always play a few rounds of golf on one of the many golf courses that surround the town or, you can take a trip to Dartmoor, which is nearby.

Crediton’s character as a market town has continued into the modern day, not only because of regular markets where you can find local produce and other handmade gifts. The town is also home to some interesting independent shops and cafes, where you can stop off for refreshments. It’s location also lends itself to some amazing experiences, like food and drink tours of local breweries and distilleries as well as the host of activities available on Dartmoor and in Exeter.
