Things to Do in Combe Martin

If you love adventure, romance and relaxation, then you need to head to Combe Martin – this village really does have it all! With watersports available in the bay, walking and cycling trails all around the village and the National Park on the doorstep, plus a host of family friendly attractions, there really is something for everyone.

Watersports

The North Devon coast is well known for having the perfect environment for a host of watersports, particularly surfing. Combe Martin is no exception and is ideal for kayaking and paddle boarding. You’ll find companies offering equipment hire right on the coast and the waters in the bay are suitable for beginners and the more experienced alike.

It is also a great spot for swimming and is perfect for rockpooling – just make sure to return whatever critters you find!

Adventure activities

Being so close to Exmoor, there are some excellent walking and cycling trails around the village and some great options for mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and more adventure activities. Not only that, but Exmoor was Europe’s first Dark Skies Reserve, making it perfect for a touch of star gazing. Every year, a Dark Skies Festival takes place, with events all over the moor and the surrounding villages and plenty of opportunity to see clear night skies. Combe Martin is just a stone’s throw from Holdstone Down – one of the top spots for star gazing, so make sure to head out there one night and experience something really special.

As well as a range of activities, Combe Martin is also home to a host of attractions, perfect for the whole family and an absolute must for history buffs. The village has their own former silver mine and a museum for you to explore the region’s history, while kids will love meeting animals, including a couple of extinct ones at the Wildlife and Dinosaur Park.

Unique attractions

Visitors to the village absolutely must stop off at the Pack o’ Cards - this unique pub is a Grade II listed building and was inspired by a pack of cards. Can you tell how?

Pick up some gifts

Combe Martin is home to a host of independent stores, where you can pick up some unique gifts and quirky mementos of your visit.

The village also hosts some truly memorable events each year, including the traditional Hunting the Earl of Rone – which has to be seen to be believed!
