What's On in Chagford

For such a small town, there is plenty to keep you occupied with Chagford’s extensive events calendar. From live local music being performed at the town’s pubs to comedy nights and activities like bingo and other community events, there are things to do for the whole family.

Festivals and more

There are a couple of big events that take place every year including Chagstock, a 2 day long music festival, which takes place every July. Recognisable names like the Boomtown Rats and comedian Ade Edmondson have previously performed and there is entertainment for the whole family, including a children’s area. The festival even has its own camping area, making it just like Devon’s own version of Woodstock! Similarly, every summer, usually in August, is Chagford Show, which is located at the Chagford Showground. Every year, you can find a host of exhibitions, trade stands, displays and musical entertainment for the whole family.

Other regular festivals include Chagword, a literary festival which aims at making words much more accessible to all. The event attracts high quality speakers and features both a literary festival for adults and children’s book festival, names such as Prue Leith and Jo Brand have attended in the past and authors like Dartmoor’s local best seller Michael Morpurgo.

The town is also home to a regular Film Festival, which features an eclectic line up and quirky events. Many of the screenings take place at the Pepper Pot, which is considered to be the smallest cinema in Devon. Look out for it in the town in September.

With its traditional thatched pubs and cottages, friendly atmosphere and things to do, Chagford is a great place to spend time during your trip to Dartmoor.
