About

Once an ancient coaching inn, this hotel retains its historic charm whilst offering all the modern comforts you expect. Located in the centre of Barnstaple, the Royal & Fortescue Hotel is a gem, ideally located for exploring Barnstaple and the surrounding North Devon area. You are just a few steps away from tempting designer shops, the ancient pannier market and the theatre. The welcoming public areas are buzzing with atmosphere, whilst the luxury accommodation is blissfully serene. Whilst staying at the The Royal & Fortescue Hotel you can also use the leisure facilities at our sister hotel The Barnstaple for free.

With a choice of function rooms, the Royal & Fortescue is also perfect for a business event, wedding reception or a special celebration.

This Georgian luxury hotel was originally a coaching inn and gained the right to add the word ‘Royal’ to its name after a visit in 1856 from the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII.) Today, the Royal & Fortescue is part of Brend Hotels, a collection of eleven privately owned luxury hotels as well as a number of fine restaurants.
