A friendly Devon welcome awaits you at this stunning location. Nestled majestically above the beaches of Putsborough and Woolacombe, in North Devon. Within a stone’s throw of Croyde, this is truly the perfect holiday destination for couples, their friends and the extended family, short breaks and adventures. Walking, surfing, cycling or simply exploring a very special part of England, this beautiful area has it all.
Andrew and Jane offer a warm welcome to Pickwell Barton, a working farm in a peaceful and stunning location, where you get a choice of three spacious self-catering North Devon holiday cottages
Our charming cottages are set in 600 acres of farmland, just a short stroll across the fields from the beaches. The cottages enjoy a secluded rural location yet are conveniently placed for the charming picturesque villages of Croyde, Georgeham and Braunton, which are all a short distance away and feature some wonderful local pubs, restaurants and shops.
Each cottage has their own private gardens and southwest facing patios, so you can enjoy those glorious summer evenings. The cottages have a bbq in their gardens for you to really take advantage of the beautiful outdoor setting.
The cottages are all modernised to a high standard, clean, warm and comprehensively equipped and are suitable for holidays at any time of the year. The cottages are centrally heated with roaring log fires and wood burners for guests staying in autumn and winter. Jane’s ‘Pop-up’ games room is a great place to have your own family sporting Olympics. At Christmas, guests will also get decorated trees and vegetable hampers and will be welcomed with a bottle of bubbly on arrival. Don’t worry though, if you’re visiting us at other times of the year, you’ll still receive our warm welcome and a hamper containing everything you could need for a magical stay.
The cottages consist of Pickwell Court, Pickwell Barton Cottage and Garden Retreat.
Pickwell Court is a beautiful south facing converted barn set in its own private courtyard. It sleeps up to 8 people and is warm, cosy and very spacious. The Court retains many original features, including oak beams and is ideal for an extended family holiday. The kitchen contains everything you could possibly need, plus the Court is accessible for guests with restricted mobility as it has downstairs bedrooms, a shower room and family bathroom. The upper floor accommodates a family bedroom with an ensuite toilet.
Pickwell Barton Cottage is the old coachman’s cottage and is still next door to the barn his horses would have been tied up in! The cottage has all its original features and is spacious throughout. Three double bedrooms and a shower room with toilet. Downstairs along with the second bathroom and third toilet is the modernised country kitchen that has everything you need to cater for the whole family and opens to the private enclosed garden and patio, equipped with garden furniture.
Garden Retreat is a beautiful south facing ground floor property, ideally suited for all abilities as it’s level throughout. The retreat has two wonderful king size bedrooms, two shower rooms (one with bath), warm country kitchen with Aga type stove and cosy lounge with open fire. Ideal for a couple, but can sleep up to 4 people.
All the cottages have a range of facilities including complimentary wifi and Free parking at Putsborough Beach. We provide linen, towels, tea towels and electricity, plus there are colour tvs and dvd players, dishwashers, washing machines and more included. They are ideal for those on surfing holidays or the more adventurous, we even provide space in the barn to hang wetsuits, boards and store bikes and other leisure equipment.
Woolacombe and Putsborough beaches are a short walk from the cottages through our farmland, if you visit during the spring, you can take a stroll down to the beaches among frolicking lambs! These two beaches form an unbroken 3 mile stretch of golden sands and just a little further along the coast is Croyde Bay, which is known for being one of the best surfing beaches in the country.
Pickwell Barton is a great base for anyone wanting to explore more of the area, there are many family friendly attractions and activity centres nearby, as well as National Trust places and we are in an area of outstanding natural beauty, so we recommend exploring the beautiful surrounds. While in Devon you have to sample a traditional cream tea, there are lots of tea rooms and gardens nearby, we’ll be happy to advise you on directions and interesting places to visit during your stay.
