Set in its own 36 acres of heaven in the very heart of Dartmoor National Park, welcome to Lydgate House Hotel, a privately owned country hotel that has been standing in this glorious part of Devon since the 1800s.
With spectacular views across the moorland, Lydgate House Hotel is an ideal location for those looking for a walking holiday, somewhere tranquil and of course, somewhere with beautiful views. It gives you easy access to Dartmoor and the surrounding area and is a convenient base for those wanting to explore the moor.
A stay at Lydgate House doesn’t just give you the chance to experience this amazing part of Devon, it also offers delicious home cooked food created with the very best local produce and warm, cosy rooms ideal for romantic breaks, countryside get aways and those wanting a real rural adventure. The hotel is dog friendly and child friendly and offers splendid bed and breakfast accommodation, many of the rooms have views of the river and there is also a cottage onsite for those wanting to cater for themselves.
The hotel features seven ensuite rooms all of which are furnished and decorated to make you feel at home. With all the usual facilities including hairdryers, TV, WiFi and tea and coffee trays. All the bedrooms have duvets and pillows filled with luxurious Siberian goose down and all are named after birds that can be found on Dartmoor. All are on the first floor except Dipper, the only ground floor room.
The Swallow Cottage is also on the grounds and has been recently refurbished, combining a modern, light and airy interior with all the rustic charm of a traditional Dartmoor barn conversion.
Lydgate House is reached by a private lane and overlooks the East Dart River and Valley, offering perfect peace and quiet as well as exceptional service from Stephen and Karen, who run the hotel and aim to provide every guest with the best possible experience. The team at the hotel are also happy to help you organise your break, whether you need maps, advice on the best places to visit or want to book onto an organised excursion or activity, Karen and Stephen are here to facilitate for you.

A short stroll along the private lane brings you out in the beautiful village of Postbridge with its famous Clapper Bridge which allows you to cross the East Dart River. We’re in the very heart of Dartmoor giving you access to amazing scenery and the fascinating history of the area. Whatever you want to do during your stay, whether it is stroll, hike, cycle, bird watch, fish, spot the Dartmoor ponies, climb a tor or take part in one of the many activities hosted by local organisations, it is all possible from Lydgate House.
