Welcome to the Heddon Valley where the South West Coast Path dips down to the sea close to Heddon's Mouth.
Heddon's Gate is tucked away high up on the eastern side of the river and hidden at the end of a quarter-mile private drive. The hotel is set in more than 2½ acres of its own gardens and woodland with panoramic views to the west and is perfectly positioned to take full advantage of sunny afternoons.
Midway between Lynton and Combe Martin and just one mile from the sea, Heddon's Gate has an illusion of remoteness in an idyllic setting.
Upstairs there are 11 en-suite bedrooms to choose from; one single, two family rooms, one twin and seven doubles. Six of the double rooms and the twin have panoramic views across the gardens and valley beyond; the other four rooms look out onto close woodland.
Downstairs there is plenty of space to relax in the large lounge, the games and information room, the bar or the very spacious breakfast room.
Outside there is a spacious west facing sun terrace, lawns and a circular walk through the woods at the back onto a path which leads round to the drive.
We welcome dogs in all the rooms except the breakfast room. There are lots of great walks most of which start in the valley below us. The most popular goes from the National Trust’s “Hunters Inn” alongside the River Heddon to Heddon’s Mouth. Another, much longer walk , takes you up the Old Carriage Path which is climbs very gradually for over a mile to high above the valley with fabulous sea views and the coastline of South Wales beyond. This path connects with the route down to Woody Bay where you can pick up the South West Coast Path to return to the Heddon Valley.
Breakfast is served in a very spacious dining room which is flooded with natural light and has views over the gardens and valley beyond. There is an ample cold buffet and your choice of hot dishes which are served to you at your table.
In the afternoon we serve tea and cake on the terrace.
Dinner is not served at Heddon’s Gate but, half a mile away, The Hunters Inn, now owned by The National Trust, serves dinner (and lunch) every day.
At Heddon’s Gate you can also enjoy a drink from the bar either outside on the terrace, in the large lounge or in the bar itself.
We look forward to welcoming you to Heddon’s Gate!

B) After 27 miles you will reach the roundabout just north of South Molton. Get into the right hand lane and take the A399 towards Ilfracombe.
C) After 15 miles (2 miles after you have crossed the A39) take a right signposted THE HUNTERS INN & TRENTISHOE. Follow that road across Trentishoe Down (after a couple of miles you'll see the sea on your left) and then down to the Hunters Inn.
