Just a scenic train ride from Barnstaple or Exeter to Eggesford, the Fox & Hounds Country Hotel is a peaceful venue on the River Taw surrounded by forest and with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The bar serving food, real ales and ciders all day shows pictures from the hotel’s past as a coaching inn and features wonderful animal portraits from Devon artists. A roaring fire and comfy sofas set the unpretentious feel – this is a place to relax and unwind.
The light and airy dining room with Garden Terrace overlooks the lovely grounds extending down to 2 fishing ponds and the River. There are 20 individually furnished en-suite bedrooms in a comfortable country style and Treetops Tree House which spans over 30 sq. m in the boughs of a magnificent oak (sleeping up to 4 guests) is the undeniable jewel in the crown in this undiscovered haven in the countryside.
Head Chef Joanne Goodman sources all the ingredients locally and we are one of the few kitchens approved to supply Exmoor beef – known for its quality. The bar menu features English classics done to perfection and our sharing Trencher boards showcasing the very best West Country produce have legendary status.
Sunday lunch and afternoon teas are also available (pre-booking required) and through the summer you can pop in for a cream tea in the garden. We have 6 miles of fly fishing available from mid March to the end of September for the keen angler to catch wild trout or salmon.
**Introducing our new self-catering Heywood Suite. A luxurious junior suite with private entrance and deck leading to the garden, mini kitchen, super-king bed, bath and separate shower room and lovely views over the lawn. Sleeps up to 4, dog friendly too!**
