Broadhembury, with its buff-washed thatched cottages, is one of East Devon's prettiest villages.
Its preservation is largely due to the Drewe family, who developed it as an estate village in the early 17th century. Julius Drewe (who built Castle Drogo at Drewsteignton) bought half the village in 1900 and his successors restored and thatched many of the houses.
Climbing to over 650ft, this route offers fine views of the village, the Blackdown Hills and the Otter Valley.
Relevant maps/guides: O.S. Explorer 30, Landranger 192.
Facilities along route: Refreshments at Drewe Arms in Broadhembury.
The route is has 7 stiles but is suitable for anyone who is fairly fit. There are well-marked field and bridlepaths, quiet lanes. One steep ascent. This route should take the average walker roughly 3 hours.
