Walkers on the Tarka Trail

Distance: 8 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Start/End point: Coldridge (Grid Ref: SS697076).

Following a lovely section of the Tarka Trail along the bends of the River Taw, this route links three fine churches - Coldridge, Brushford and Nymet Rowland - by quiet country lanes and footpaths.

This is typical Devon, with rolling hills, a patchwork of fields, wood and deep winding lanes. Begin at Coldridge, where cob and thatch houses are grouped around the square.

Allow time to explore St. Matthew's, and admire the superb view to Dartmoor from the ridge which gave the village its name.

Theme: Country,
Special Interest: Nature, Historical, Art & Literature, Wildlife,
Area: Mid Devon, Torridge.

Relevant maps/guides: O.S. Explorer 113, Landranger 191.
Facilities along route: There is a post office and general store in Coldridge, and also a pub at Lapford Cross.
This route is suitable for all, but please note that there are 19 stiles to use. The route is well-signed footpaths and country lanes. May be muddy and weedy in parts. A few short uphill sections. This walk will take roughly 8 ours for the average walker.
