Shaldon Wildlife Trust

Set in a woodland garden above the attractive coastal village of Shaldon, we look after, and help preserve, some of the rarest and most endangered animals in the world. Shaldon Wildlife Trust is home to a unique collection of smaller endangered species, many of which are not found in larger zoos but are just as interesting, if not more so than their larger relatives.

See the colourful manes and striking features of our marmosets and tamarins from South America including our pygmy marmosets, the smallest monkey in the world. Admire our beautiful ocelot cat. See close up our four groups of lemurs, unique to the island of Madagascar. Enjoy watching the escapades of our inquisitive meerkats and intelligent and mischievous yellow-breasted capuchins. Have you ever seen animals such as cusimanses, tree shrews, Madagascan giant jumping rats, red titi monkeys and long-nosed potoroos, to name a few?

Come and see our new £150,000 extension which has made the Trust wheelchair accessible for the first time and easier for pushchairs and those with mobility problems. It also includes new, larger enclosures for some of our animals including our new South American squirrel monkeys.

After your visit you can always go down the Smuggler’s tunnel which leads to the secluded Ness Cove beach.

We also run a Keeper for a Day Scheme which gives anyone over 14 the chance to roll up their sleeves and really get involved in the work of a keeper.
