Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is a bright, welcoming, family-friendly place – just on the edge of the city centre, approximately five minutes’ walk from the main Drake Circus shopping mall.

The Museum is spread over two floors and has nine permanent galleries featuring thousands of items from its natural history, world cultures, Ancient Egypt, archaeology, local/maritime history, fine and decorative art collections.

It also runs an ambitious exhibition programme with up to 8 different shows each year that are either curated in-house or produced in partnership with other local, regional or national partners.

A café and shop mean you can break up your visit with a drink and a sandwich or a spot of gift shopping.

The Museum also runs a massive event programme throughout the year with something on offer for all age groups including talks, tours, family activities, special events and concerts.

It has recently been awarded VisitBritain’s Quality Assured Visitor Attraction Status for the seventh year in a row, while its 2011 exhibition ‘Draw Me a Story: The Art of Illustration for Children’ was one of only four entries shortlisted in the ‘Project on a Limited Budget’ category of the 2012 Museums + Heritage Awards for Excellence.

Admission is free.
