PLANTAGENESTA – BRINGING THE PAST INTO THE PRESENT FOR THE FUTURE, and creating a comprehensive family history which will become an enduring heirloom, which needn’t cost the earth.

Plantagenesta is a unique family history practice which is open all year round. It is an innovative idea by Mary Hyland, offering an original concept into family history research.

The unique selling point of this shop based genealogy service is that the client is encouraged to set their own affordable budget. Commissioned projects start from as little as £100. One to one research sessions, when the customer is involved in the research with one of our expert genealogists, will cost only £20 per hour.

For the family historian who has hit a brick wall, and become stuck with their researches, Plantagenesta do “unstuck” very well!
Tucked away in deepest Devon, Plantagenesta has attracted commissions from The four corners of the United Kingdom and all around the world. If you are planning to visit the West Country for a holiday, short break or even the 2012 Olympics, a visit to Plantagenesta is a truly worthwhile and fascinating way to spend a couple of hours.

ORDINARY PEOPLE WITH EXTRA-ORDINARY BACKGROUNDS.

At Plantagenesta, we would never discuss the projects we are working on, without the client’s permission. However, Nick Farmer and Roy Hill are so intrigued with the fact that their respective ancestors did battle 500 years ago, that they not only suggested that we tell everyone, but each agreed to be a guest on BBC Radio Devon’s John Govier Show. Roy thought he was an ordinary chap until we discovered that his 32 times great grandfather was William the Conqueror, and that he shared his family tree with no less than 20 Monarchs! Nick on the other hand is descended from the famous Norfolk rebels, William and Robert Kett, who took the city of Norwich and held it until a battle with Roy’s ancestors on an infamous day when 5000 men died.

At Plantagenesta we are as passionate about your family history as we know you are. Not only are we expert at what we do, but we have built up a reputation which is second to none in the field of genealogy. You will find us well worth a visit as we are friendly, approachable and always willing to chat!

If you would like to book an hour long research session, or wish to commission us for a full project, we would suggest that you ring to make an appointment, so you will not find us busy with other clients when you arrive. For the casual visitor, we do “15 minutes for a fiver” when we will see what great granny might have been up to in 1881!

TALKS to groups, fundraising events and after dinner speaking. A light hearted look at genealogy – entitled “Dare to Climb Your Family Tree”
