Fursdon House, Exeter

The Fursdon family have lived on this site for almost 750 years. David and Catriona Fursdon took over the stewardship of the estate in 1979 and warmly invite visitors to tour parts of the house. The rooms you will see date from different periods in history - medieval, jacobean, georgian and regency - and are in constant use by the present family.

There are family portraits, paintings, embroidery and patchwork, interesting furniture and stories of ghosts and dragons on your guided tour. A tour offers you the opportunity to glimpse the life and times of the squires of Fursdon and their family in the community which has thrived here for over seven centuries.

In addition to the fascinating house and museum, there is a lovely garden to explore. A path leads to Cadbury Castle, an Iron Age hill fort and well known landmark. This is reputedly the home of the Cadbury Dragon who is said to protect the Fursdons.

While you are at Fursdon you may like to have a cream tea in the Coach Hall tea room. The scones will be home baked and the cream clotted. There will also be a roaring fire lit to keep you warm on cold days.
