Dartmoor walkers

Distance: 10 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Start/End point: Shipley Bridge (Grid Ref: SX682630).

Climb from a 5,000 year old Neolithic tomb on Dartmoor to an ancient cross near the top of a ridge. There's no need to rush to catch the train up to Redlake Tramway - 'Puffing Billy', which hauled men and materials in trucks to the Red Lake China clay works, ran out of steam in the 1930s and now the line provides a gentle, scenic path into the South Moor as part of the Two Moors way.

The return follows the path of horse-drawn wagons that carried peat to Shipley Bridge along the 19th century Zeal Tramway.
