Exeter's Underground Passages (c) Mike Alsford

Exeter's Underground Passages were built to house the pipes that brought clean drinking water into medieval Exeter. A guided tour of Exeter's Underground Passages is a memorable event - narrow, dark, interesting and exciting. Visit the heritage centre before your guided tour, packed with interactive exhibits and interpretation.

These are the only passages of this kind open to the public in Britain. In fact, Exeter's Underground Passages have been HIGHLY COMMENDED in a prestigious national award.
The recently re-opened Passages were awarded second place for 'Project on a Limited Budget' in the Museum and Heritage Awards for Excellence, which were held The Church House in Westminster on 7 May 2008.
