Gardens
Thanks to its mild climate and rich fertile soil, Devon is a garden-lover's paradise with many beautiful and inspiring gardens throughout the county. The historic houses of country estates have elegant gardens and parkland, many with rare species and some including something a bit different such as modern sculpture exhibits adorning the grounds.
To see rare and beautiful palms visit Bicton Park Botanical Gardens whose palm house looks out over beautifully laid out gardens. The Royal Horticultural Society’s Rosemoor gardens also boast treats such as a cherry garden and extensive formal gardens.
There are also many well-maintained public spaces to enjoy. Among these are Northenhay and Rougemont gardens in Exeter where the Shakespeare in the Gardens is performed every year during July and August, and Babbacombe Downs which offers spectacular views as far as the sands of Exmouth beach and even Portland on a fine day.
