Drift back into the style and opulence of the Jazz Age as you retrace the steps of the world’s best-selling author along Torquay’s seafront. Starting at either the Imperial Hotel or the Grand Hotel, the Agatha Christie Mile takes you to some of the places that were inspirational in her life and works, with seven unique plaques to find along way.
Look out for:
The Grand Hotel – site of Agatha’s honeymoon to Archie on Christmas Eve 1914. The hotel still retains an Agatha Christie Suite.
Torre Abbey Garden – Home of the Agatha Christie’s Potent Plants collection inspired by the poisons and potions in her books.
Princess Pier – A favourite spot of Agatha’s for roller-skating, and built in the same year she was born. The ferry to Greenway can be booked here with Greenway Ferries.
Princess Gardens – Feature in the ABC Murders.
The Pavilion – It was after attending a Wagner concert here that Archie Christie proposed to the young Agatha Miller.
Agatha Christie Bust – a bronze bust created to commemorate the Agatha Christie centenary year in 1990 by Dutch sculptor Carol Van Den Boom-Cairns.
Royal Torbay Yacht Club – Agatha’s father Frederick Miller was a prominent member here.
Beacon Cove – then known as Ladies Bathing Cove. It was here that Agatha got into difficulty whilst swimming and almost drowned. Living Coasts overlooks the cove from its terrace.
Imperial Hotel – featured in several novels.
Torquay Museum – Home to the UK's only dedicated Agatha Christie Gallery.
Guided tours can be arranged on request, and a free leaflet is available from the Visitor Information Centres.
