Type: Country Park/Nature Reserve
Whether you want to explore the forest on foot, by bike, or swinging through the canopy, there’s something for you just around the next tree. Within easy reach of the M5 near Exeter, and a stone’s throw from Dartmoor National Park, we’re easy to find for a day out with a difference.
Have an adventure on the Play Trail, a 1½ mile all-ability trail with play features, viewpoints and regular rest stops. Stimulate your senses on the Mamhead Sensory Trail, where a short easy walk is rewarded with views over the Exe Estuary. Journey deeper into the forest on the Butterfly Trail and see how many different butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies you can spot.
Hire a bike or bring your own to enjoy hours of fun, family cycling.
And from autumn 2009, experienced mountain bikers can explore our new long distance technical mountain bike trail. Horse riders can enjoy over 10 miles of off-road tracks in their own dedicated equestrian area, with a half mile gallop stretch and horse box parking.
If that isn’t enough, why not sign up for the Go Ape! high wire adventure course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip slides?
Stop by the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World to see the latest exhibitions, workshops, and events. Or pop into the Ridge Café, serving a selection of local, organic, fairtrade food and drink for breakfast and lunch, or round off the day with a cup of coffee and slice of homemade cake.
