Pubs & Bars in Devon

If you appreciate a decent cider, good ale, well-chosen wine or glamorous cocktail then we can point you in the right direction. When you think of Devon pubs and bars, no doubt you will form a mental picture of a thatched country inn with roaring fire, steaming roasts, artisan pints and a warm welcome... Well, you won't be disappointed!  The excellent reputation of Devon’s pubs is very well deserved, and we have plenty of historic thatched inns - as well as cool beachside bars overlooking rolling surf, pubs that pride themselves on their extensive wine lists, and cocktail bars just perfect for a great night out. Many of Devon's pubs and bars serve excellent food too – a couple of them have even been awarded Michelin stars.

Devon pubs serving local drinks

As you’d expect from a county that’s teeming with excellent local produce, Devon’s pubs commonly serve at least a few local brews. Of course, that will include cider – it’s one of the things we’re most famous for, and you’ll find good old farmhouse scrumpy as well as more refined versions of our county drink. Devon has plenty of small artisan breweries too, and most Devon pubs will make sure they serve at least one of these, in bottles or on draught. Devon’s vineyards produce some very good bottles, mainly white but the occasional red too. And in recent years, we’ve seen a number of very good locally-made gins and whiskies available in Devon pubs (and to buy off-license too, or course) – all of which must be tried, of course!

Award-winning Devon pubs

In addition to pubs with Michelin stars, many of our pubs have been recognised by national and international bodies, for their food and their drink. Our own Devon Tourism Awards annually recognised the absolute best of the best, but take a look at any list of ‘best foodie pubs in the uk’ or ‘best pubs with the best views’ – and you’ll see Devon is always very well represented!
