Cafes & Tearooms in Devon

When one of your best known dishes is the Devonshire Cream Tea, you have to have some pretty top notch cafés and tearooms but there's more to Devon's cafés and tearooms than that.

All cater for food from morning 'til late afternoon (some of them even open some evenings for dinner and other special ocassions), and so often offer a fantastic range of cooked and light breakfasts (full English, anyone?), and light (or not so light) lunches including pies, sandwiches, salads, fish and chips ... and of course, Devon pasties. Did you know the pasty originated in Devon? It's true, no matter what our friends over the border like to say.

Cafés and tearooms in great Devon locations

Part of the whole experience of visiting a café or tearoom in Devon is where your search will take you. Jolly outdoor picnic tables beside the village green, settings dressed with linen and silver overlooking miles of golden sand, high-ceilinged rooms in historic properties – all are great settings in which to tuck in to a well-earned lunch or naughty treat.

Whether it’s on a clifftop, by a riverside or indeed on the water itself (we have a number of boat cafes!), it would be easy to plan a whole trip around visits to great Devon cafés and tearooms ... in fact, why not take a look at the choice below and do just that.

Award-winning cafes and tearooms in Devon

As well as recognising excellent cafés and tearooms at our own annual Devon Tourism Awards, many bodies both national and international have named Devon cafés and tearooms amongst their award winners – which is unsurprising, as Devon is known as the home of the cream tea! Any list of the tope cafeé and tearooms in the UK will inevitably include a good representation from Devon – an achievement of which we are rightly proud.
