Combe House - Devon's Hotel of the Year 2010 - is a privately run, historic Elizabethan Manor, situated in one of Devon's finest country estates. Close to the sea for long coastal walks, yet just a short drive from the Cathedral city of Exeter.
Listed as one of the most romantic hotels in Great Britain and awarded "Top UK Restaurants 2008 - the 100 best places to eat out in the UK" by Restaurant Magazine, Combe is a place you will love. For, to discover the warmth and tranquility of this luxury country house hotel surrounded by its enchanting woodland gardens, is to find something very special.
The alluring combination of heritage and a welcoming lived-in feel makes this the perfect choice to take someone special for great food and genuine country hospitality. You’ll find an abundance of fresh flowers, huge log fires, treasured antiques and mullioned windows. The restaurant consists of two light but intimate dining rooms decorated with chandeliers and beautifully hand-painted walls. Guests are treated to panoramic views by day and candlelit dinners by night. In winter enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the cosy bar or sitting room, or relax in the Great Hall - in front of a crackling log fire.
Hadleigh Barrett and Stuart Brown, Combe’s Masterchefs of Great Britain, weave their culinary magic, drawing ingredients from Combe’s restored Victorian kitchen gardens. Both chefs are ardent about sourcing the freshest and best quality local ingredients for their menus. According to Hadleigh, “We couldn’t have achieved the culinary awards without the people who supply us with such superb local home-grown produce. Having the West Country’s larder right on our doorstep means we are spoilt for choice. It makes it a joy to create and prepare dishes full of taste and flavour.”
When you experience the genuine warmth and hospitality extended by Ken and Ruth Hunt and their team, you’ll understand why Combe House won the ‘Most Excellent Innovation in Sustainable Hospitality’ award from Condé Nast Johansens in 2010. A warm welcome awaits residents and non-residents alike.
The perfect setting for good food and company. This is what memories are made of.
