Church House Inn, Harberton – a real hidden treasure

The Church House Inn is an atmospheric, 13th century pub and restaurant situated in the lovely South Hams village of Harberton. Blink and you'll miss the turning from Totnes – but persist, and the journey's well worth your time. If ever a pub could be defined as the archetypal Devon pub then this is it.

Built beside the imposing village church of St Andrews (the inn was originally a watering hole for men of the cloth), the whitewashed walls and medieval doors lead into a heavily beamed interior, reminiscent of times gone by. Under new ownership, Dan and Tony Langton will greet you with a warm welcome and will ensure that you enjoy your time at the pub. All ingredients are sourced locally from farms and suppliers – so if you're after Sharpham Wine, real ales, Annie’s vegetables, Patey's Meats or Brixham dayboat fish then the Church House Inn is a must. The portuguese chef is renowned for his speciality dishes such as Pork Calvados or Seafood Piri Piri, and according to many of our visitors he is one of the best seafood chefs in the South Hams.
The Inn is a perfect stop-over if you're travelling down the A38 to either Plymouth or Exeter, being only 3 miles from Totnes. It's also within easy distance of family attractions like China Blue in Totnes, Woodlands in Dartmouth and Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh. If you're down for the Dartmouth Regatta, Music or Food Festival, why not drop in – it's on your way. So whether you're looking for a drink in a real Devon pub, a quick bite or a long and leisurely lunch/dinner, the Church House Inn is a must. Dogs and families welcome...
