The Two Moors Festival 2011
A Dartmoor to Exmoor Music Festival.
This year's Two Moors Festival sees a total of thirty music concerts taking place in October.
Devotees of the Two Moors Festival will know that classical concerts take place in moorland churches, some large and one so small that it seats only thirty six people. Most of the concerts involve chamber music performed by distinguished and well-known artists as well as up-and-coming young musicians. Amongst the myriad artists who have taken part in the past are Dame Emma Kirkby, Mark Padmore, Paul Lewis, BBC Young Musician of the Year winners to name but a few.
With two BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, Best Stage Work in the BBC 2007 Composer's Awards, and a Tenth Anniversary celebration with a Gold-Medal winning garden at the Chelsea Flower Show not to mention being the the only UK festival in the 2010 Guardian's "Best local Festivals in the World" guide, The Two Moors event has gone from strength to strength.
Amongst the highlights are a performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto with Julian Lloyd Webber in Exeter Cathedral on the 20th October, a performance of Mahler's Fourth Symphony (in its chamber version), masterclasses, a violin recital given by the extraordinarily gifted American artist, Elena Urioste and a rousing concert involving Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet arranged for piano duet.
The Festival attracts eager concert-goers from all over the country and from overseas. They stay in smart B&Bs, enjoy good pub food and combine a visit to one of the most beautiful parts of Britain with a host of concerts in tow.
Concert's this year take place in venues and churches in Ashburton, Culbone, Dulverton
Exeter, Holne, Lynton, Milverton, Okehampton, Tiverton, Widecombe in the Moor and
Wootton Courtenay.
