Exeter Picture House - NT Encore: Frankenstein

The 2011 smash-hit production of Frankenstein from the National Theatre returns to the Exeter Picturehouse this summer by popular demand. A new play by Nick Dear based on the novel by Mary Shelley.

Oscar winner Danny Boyle (127 HOURS, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) returned to the theatre to direct this visionary production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. It will return to cinemas worldwide from June for a limited season of encore (recorded) screenings.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature in two electrifying broadcasts.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

Critically acclaimed actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller alternate roles as the Creature and Frankenstein.

120 mins (no interval).
