Devon Guild of Craftsmen presents 'Tracing the Blueprint'

Exhibition - Tracing the Blueprint: ‘Blaudruck’, the resist printed indigo fabric of Eastern Europe,has a fascinating social history. Using photographs, words, cloth samples and clothing, Tracing the Blueprint describes historic and current craft production in Hungary and how these small white on blue patterns made their way via trade, settlers and the Manchester printers to Southern Africa. Curated by Devon Guild Member Hilary Burns with Jacqueline Sarsby who is an anthropologist, photographer and oral historian.

Talk: Tracing the Blueprint – Explorations in Hungary and South Africa. A talk by Hilary Burns and Jacqueline Sarsby on how their textile backgrounds and lives have converged and about their travels and discoveries in South Africa and Hungary in pursuit of blue print and its history.

Workshop: Stitch in Blue: a patchwork workshop by Hilary Burns & Sigi Thompson. Using patterned indigo fabric from South Africa, participants will make a block of hand-stitched patchwork. Suitable for beginners.
