Thanks to unusual weather conditions earlier this year, RHS Garden Rosemoor’s Apple Orchard is laden with fruit in time for Rosemoor’s popular Apple Day. In this bumper year for apples, the event will be as packed with interest as the Orchard is packed with fruit.
There will be apple displays from Rosemoor, RHS Garden Wisley, Paul Barnett Trees and Thornhayes Nurseries which will help visitors to identify the apple varieties they have in their own gardens. If there is still doubt, apple experts will be on hand to assist as well as offering planting and cultivation advice.
When you have worked up an appetite, you can visit the apple tastings which include some popular South West varieties to help you decide which apple is both suitable for local conditions and tasty enough to grow in your own garden. A range of popular apple trees will be available to buy from the Plant Centre.
Orchards Live will be present with its Apple Harvester to demonstrate how to take the backache out of apple collection and Westlake Farm will show how easy crushing apples can be with its portable cider mill.
In addition, there will be children's activities and trails, cookery demonstrations with recipe handouts, stalls selling apple juice and cider, and a whole bushel of other activities.
Come down to Rosemoor on Apple Day and learn something new about apples.
