February half term sees the return of Animated Exeter, the leading animation festival in the South West. Screening the best local, national and international animation for adults and children, this popular annual festival offers a host of workshops, exhibitions, events and talks aimed at informing and entertaining a wide-ranging audience.

For 2012, viewers will be able to cast their votes to decide the best of our national competition films, as well as the British Animations Awards, the biennial festival of the best of UK animation. Animation workshops are offered at all skills levels, providing a fascinating insight into the art of animation.

If funding targets are achieved, Animated Exeter will be presenting a spectacular outdoor projection by acclaimed film and theatre performance company, Forkbeard Fantasy. They will be transforming the heart of the city with a projected story on a grand scale, rivalling previous year’s shows, Isca Obscura at Exeter Cathedral and Broadsided! at Exeter Castle.

Animated Exeter runs from 6th February, starting with a School’s Week. The festival workshops and screenings begin on Saturday 11th with workshops run by Joanna van der Meer of the British Film Institute. The action hots up for the final three days of the festival, the Essential Weekend, from Friday 18th to Sunday 19th.

The festival takes place at a number of venues in and around Exeter: Exeter Phoenix, Spacex, Exeter Picturehouse and Vue Cinema, as well as further afield in Devon, such as Honiton’s Thelma Hulbert Gallery, The Plough Arts Centre in Great Torrington and Dartington’s Barn Cinema.

Animated Exeter welcomes people of all ages and experience. Brochure information and tickets are available from December from Exeter Phoenix on 01392 667080. You can also sign-up for our newsletter via the website, or follow us on Twitter for updates.
