A Jacobean Manor tucked away in its own secret valley.
Hidden away in a wooded hollow just beneath the wild tors of Dartmoor, Lewtrenchard is a house virtually untouched by time. The original manor was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The ornate plaster work of the ceilings, the stained glass windows bearing the coat of arms of the Baring Gould family and the roaring log fires all help to draw you in to the lost world of Lewtrenchard.
Each of the light and spacious bedrooms has its own unique character, whether it be burnished oak panelling, exquisite ornamental plasterwork, rich fabrics or extraordinary furniture – in one you’ll even find the original bed of Henrietta Maria, wife of the hapless Charles I. Freshly cut flowers from the garden, bowls of fresh fruit and irresistible home made biscuits offer the finishing touches to each room.
The elevated setting of the house provides impressive views over the wonderful gardens and parkland. Designed by Walter Sorel, with obvious influences from Gertrude Jekyll, the six acres of gardens are now part of the national garden scheme.
For those visiting Lewtrenchard on business, the Ballroom provides a wonderful setting for conferences and corporate events.
Lewtrenchard also holds a wedding licence providing a beautiful location to hold the ceremony and reception under one roof.
